Inn By The Sea to Host Book Signing

Local photographer Nance Trueworthy will sign her new book A Seat on the Shore: Quietly Admiring the Maine Coast at the Inn By The Sea on Saturday July 23, 2005 from 3:00pm to 6:30 pm. This local veteran photographer’s new book contains 90 stunning color photographs of Maine’s most beautiful shorelines. With many Maine vistas, including several of Cape Elizabeth, it is a journey to some places familiar, others unknown, but all imbued with a sense of peace and wonder.

A South Portland resident, Nance Trueworthy has lived in Maine for more than thirty years and knows nearly all its shoreline and how it appears in different seasons, weather conditions, and times of day. Her creative use of light and perspective transforms views of popular coastal towns, harbor sides, and beaches with sometimes surprising results. She also travels off the beaten track to photograph little-known places along Maine’s shore. These images range from windswept salt marshes and stark island bluffs to rustic fishing wharves.

In many of the beautiful photographs in this book, there are one or more artfully placed chairs: vantage points where one can “take a seat” and be transported beyond the everyday world. A Seat on the Shore is an armchair tour of Maine’s coast at its most peaceful.

Nance Trueworthy has been a professional photographer for more than thirty years, shooting throughout the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. She specializes in national and international stock, as well as assignment work. Her color images have appeared in books, calendars, and magazines, including Time, Sports Illustrated, and Newsweek. The Smithsonian Institution for the museum’s popular exhibit “Planet Ocean” also chose Nance’s work. In addition, she is the author and photographer of the Down East titles Maine in Four Seasons and Down the Shore.

The book will be available at the signing at the Inn By The Sea, A SEAT ON THE SHORE: Quietly Admiring the Maine Coast. Down East Books, hardcover. 96 pages, 90 color photographs, 9″ x 9″, $30.00. Publication date: June 2005. ISBN: 0-89272-665-2.
