Freshman goalkeeper Allie Hill (Cape Elizabeth) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies field hockey team has been named the Little East Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of October 2-8. It is the second time this season that Hill has earned the accolade for the Huskies.

Hill helped Southern Maine to an unbeaten week with wins over in-state rival St. Joseph’s College and Little East Conference opponents Fitchburg State and Western Connecticut State. In the Huskies’ three wins Hill posted 27 saves and an impressive 0.88 goals against average in 240 minutes of action.

Hill posted her first collegiate shutout in Southern Maine’s 1-0 win over St. Joseph’s (Oct. 5). In the Huskies 2-1 overtime victory against Fitchburg State, Hill stopped 14 shots, including nine in the overtime periods and then turned back four of the Falcons penalty stroke attempts.

Currently, Hill leads the Little East Conference in saves making 139 in 14 games for Southern Maine and is seventh in goals against average with a 1.82 mark.
