People’s Beach to Beacon

TD Banknorth will sponsor its 10th annual People’s Beach to Beacon road race Aug. 4 in Cape Elizabeth. Founded by 1984 Olympic Marathon gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson, the race runs 6.2 miles from Crescent Beach state park to Portland Head Light. Inspired by Samuelson’s dream of a race on her favorite training grounds, the 10K attracted roughly 5,000 runners of all abilities last summer, not to mention 10,000 spectators. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. and all are encouraged to participate. Online registration begins on March 15. For more information, visit www.beach2beacon.org.

Family Fun Day on Cape Elizabeth

This June, Cape Elizabeth will hold its annual Family Fun Day at Fort Williams Park. Typically, the day’s festivities are kicked off with a morning parade featuring antique cars and floats from community groups, sports teams, and the Cape Elizabeth fire department. Upon arrival at the park, families participate in award ceremonies, crafts, face painting, games, a talent show, and evening fireworks. All proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations. As the month of June draws near, visit www.capeelizabeth.com for more details.
