Despite some lightning in the morning that caused delays, the Western Maine Conference outdoor track championship went on as planned Saturday in Yarmouth.

York won the girls meet with 174.33 points, followed by Greely (162.33). Falmouth (113), Cape Elizabeth (79), Poland (67), NYA (28), Fryeburg Academy (27), Lake Region (26.33), Traip Academy (25), Yarmouth (19), Wells (13), Gray-New Gloucester (4) and Freeport (3).

In the boys meet, Falmouth topped the field with 133.33 points, followed by Poland (109), York (78.33), Fryeburg Academy (77), NYA (70), Gray-New Gloucester (55), Greely (54.33), Traip Academy (38), Freeport (31), Lake Region (30), Sacopee Valley (30), Wells (12), Cape Elizabeth (10), Yarmouth (9) and Old Orchard Beach (4).

Cape Elizabeth

The Cape girls got strong performances in the distance events to secure their fourth-place finish. Marita Stressenger won the 1,600-meter run in 5:11.98 to lead a pack of four Cape scorers. Emily Attwood was second, Rachel Nichols was fourth and Erin Gross finished seventh as the Capers scored 25 of their points in the event.

Stressenger also took first in the 800 with a time of 2:23.74. Attwood took fourth and Nichols was fifth. Kelsey Barton placed second in the 3,200 and Hannah Doss took third. In the 4×400 relay, the team of Attwood, Skyler Dunfey, Nichols and Stressenger finished third. The 4×800 team of Barton, Doss, Shannon Lyons and Lindsay Rand placed sixth.

Cape’s Emma Hockmuth won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8-6. She also placed seventh in the high jump.

Brenden Shields led the Cape boys, placing in three events. He took third in the triple jump, seventh in the long jump and eighth in 100 dash. Jon Bass also scored, finishing eighth in the 300 hurdles.

Gray-New Gloucester

The Gray-New Gloucester boys won the 4×100 relay. The team of Will Danieli, Kendhall Davis, Zach Field and Ben Miklovich crossed the line in 45.57 seconds. Miklovich also placed second in the 100 dash and the 200 dash. Davis took third in both the 110 hurdles and the pole vault.

The Gray-New Gloucester 4×800 relay team of Cameron Betts, Liam Kalloch, Ethan Ray and Sam Kiyanitsa placed fifth. Betts was fourth in the 800, while Kalloch took fifth. Scott Albert was seventh in the 1,600-meter race walk. Nate Rowe took eighth in the 110 hurdles. The 4×400 relay team of Betts, Kalloch, Danieli and Ray placed eighth.

Jessica Mitaly was the only scorer for the Gray-New Gloucester girls, as she took fifth in the pole vault.

Lake Region

The Lake Region girls were led by Kari Cowperthwaite’s third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Teammate Doe Leckie placed seventh in the event. Cowperthwaite took sixth in the 100 hurdles with Leckie right behind her in seventh.

Lake Region’s Shelly Burgess was fifth in the discus. Lauren D’Ascanio was fifth in the shot put. Natani Butler was seventh in the pole vault. Krysti Leach was seventh in the javelin throw. Corey Lynn Morton tied for eighth in the high jump. The 4×800 relay team of Erica Webb, Tina Delacruz, Linnea Williams and AJ Bartlett finished eighth.

On the boys side for the Lakers, Jake Moore won the 300 hurdles in 41.61 seconds. He was seventh in the 100 dash. Luke Elliott won the pole vault, clearing 12-6. Jordan Brochu took fourth in the discus and Brandon “Stretch” Hall taking sixth in the same event.

Old Orchard Beach

Sam Lewis did all the scoring for Old Orchard Beach, as he placed sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
