Portland 13

Scarborough 12

It was close, but the Scarborough Red Storm couldn’t hold on against the Portland rushing attack last Friday night.

Portland sophomore back Imadhi Zagon came back from a second-quarter arm injury to help the Bulldogs (2-3) to a win over the Red Storm, who fell to 3-2 on the season.

The Red Storm got on the board first in the contest after quarterback Kyle Kelley hit Kris Gergler with a 13-yard touchdown pass to put Scarborough up 6-0.

Portland tied the game at six when quarterback Jason Strauss found Jake Alexander with an 11-yard touchdown pass, the extra point failed, and the score was tied.

Scarborough’s Brendan Ham put the Storm back into the lead in the third quarter when he broke several tackles to score on an 87-yard run. The two-point conversion attempt failed, and the Red Storm lead was 12-6.

That’s when Zagon shook off the injury. Reentering the game in the third, the Portland back got the deciding touchdown on a drive where he ran the ball six straight times, capping off the effort with an 18-yard touchdown run. Carl Szanton kicked the extra point, and Portland held on to win 13-12.

Up next, the Red Storm will head out to South Berwick to take on Marshwood Friday night at 7 p.m. The Hawks (2-3) come into the came on the heels of a 49-7 loss to Deering last Friday night.
