Three local high school wrestlers qualified for Saturday’s Class A state meet in Augusta with their performances at last Saturday’s Western A regional meet, held at Noble High School in North Berwick.

Nate Lavallee of Cape Elizabeth won his championship-round match at 285 pounds by pinning Deering’s Tyler DeBardino at 2:13.

Scarborough’s Glen Googins won his consolation-round match, pinning Bonny Eagle’s Troy Severance at 3:53 to place third at 145. The Red Storm’s Brian Smiley placed fourth at 135 after being pinned by Sanford’s Zachary Clarke at 4:44.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class qualified for the state meet.

Scarborough tied for ninth in the 14-team field, scoring 39 points. Cape Elizabeth was 13th with 26.

Massabesic, the two-time defending state champions, won with 243 points, edging runner-up Noble, which had 218.5. In third was Bonny Eagle (176), followed by Westbrook (111), Deering (68.5), Kennebunk (67), Windham (60), Sanford (50.5), Marshwood (39), Scarborough, Biddeford (31), Portland (28), Cape Elizabeth and Thornton Academy (9).
