Cape Elizabeth girls fifth, boys come in seventh

Cape Elizabeth produced some solid results during the recent Class B Alpine and Nordic skiing state championship meets at Big Rock and the Nordic Heritage Center.
The girls’ Nordic team came in sixth in the freestyle, fourth in the classic and fifth overall with 149 points. Maranacook won the title.
Individually, Emily Attwood sparkled, winning the freestyle in 15 minutes, 32.19 seconds and the classic race in 16:57.31.
Lexi Weatherbie (23rd, 19:00.97), Skyler Dunfey (28th, 19:48.34) and Kathleen Takach (32nd, 20:57.32) also scored in the freestyle.
Dunfey (10th, 19:21.59), Weatherbie (18th, 20:28.09) and Takach (36th, 23:18.88) also scored in the classic.
On the boys’ side of the Nordic ledger, the Capers were seventh in both races and seventh overall. Maranacook was the champion.
Individually, Bobby Yokabasas came in fifth in the freestyle (14:16.04) and 10th in the classic (15:57.19).
Cape Elizabeth’s boys and girls didn’t score as a team in Alpine.
Jack Barber came in 11th in the slalom (with a two-run combined time of 1:25.10) and 18th in the giant slalom (1:29.63) for the boys .
Anna Vallely led the girls in the slalom with a 12th-place showing (1:41.97). In the GS, Vallely was 18th (1:33.95).
Sean Thomas was eighth in the boys’ skimeister competition, taking part in all Alpine and Nordic events.
In Class A, Scarborough didn’t compete as a team, but Taylor Bernier was 40th in the GS (1:26.01) and 45th in the slalom (1:37.26) for the boys.
Shelby Bernier was 45th in the slalom (2:09.87) and 64th in the GS (1:51.96) for the Red Storm girls.
