PORTLAND — The Board of Directors of Casco Bay Lines is scheduled to vote March 26 on a budget that includes increased ticket prices for passengers, vehicles and freight.
After complaints from islanders that proposed rate increases were too high, ferry administrators went back and cut $75,000 from the proposed fiscal year 2010 budget. The board also voted to end a fuel surcharge in September, which means ticket prices will go up more in the summer, but then drop 50 cents starting Sept. 1.
The board will vote on a $5.2 million budget proposal. Rates for passenger tickets will increase depending on where a rider is headed. A trip to Peaks Island this summer will cost $8.20 if the budget is passed. But it will drop to $7.70 in September, and then further when off-peak rates go into effect. The current price for a peak season trip to Peaks is $7.75.
A trip to Long Island will go up 50 cents for the summer; after Sept. 1, Long Island riders will pay $10 a ticket, which is what they currently pay (with the surcharge).
