CARRABASSETT VALLEY – On Saturday, a welcome home celebration is planned for two-time Olympic snowboard-cross champion Seth Wescott at Sugarloaf and the community is invited.
Wescott, a Farmington native and graduate of Carrabassett Valley Academy, trains at Sugarloaft and will be back home this week after
winning his gold medal on February 15 at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
On Saturday, events will start at 10 a.m. on the “Beach” at the base lodge where there will be music and food. From 10 a.m. to noon,
Wescott will have a press conference and will be available for interviews, according to the schedule.
At 1 p.m., a “welcome back” celebration will begin on the Beach with Governor John Baldacci introducing the gold medalist to the
crowd. And from 2 to 4 p.m., Wescott will be available for autograph signing and special commemorative posters are being made
specifically for this event, said Sugarloaf spokesman Ethan Austin.
