BOSTON — A volcanic cloud floating from Iceland east over Europe is prompting flight cancellations at Logan International Airport.

Massport CEO Thomas Kinton says cancellations today included two British Airways flights to and from London’s Heathrow International Airport, as well as a Virgin Atlantic flight to and from London Heathrow.

Aer Lingus also cancelled a flight to and from Dublin, Ireland.

Kinton tells the Massport board “the situation is fluid and more outbound flights may cancel.”

Volcanic eruptions rarely interrupt commercial air travel, but in some large ash clouds high in the atmosphere have the potential to stall or shut down jet engines.
