ROCKLAND — The city of Rockland is going to be repaid for its role in the Maine Lobster Festival in August.

The city council says festival organizers will repay the $16,704 in overtime expenses for city police and fire fighters by June 2011.

The Bangor Daily News says city officials didn’t feel the city could afford the costs during a time the municipality has cut jobs.

In years past the city has paid the expenses that include public safety and cleanup.

Festival organizers are planning to save public money by replacing city employees with festival volunteers.

This year’s festival is planned for Aug. 4-8.
