Waynflete competes at Class C state track meet

The weather-delayed Class C boys’ and girls’ outdoor track meet took place Wednesday in Dover-Foxcroft. Waynflete’s boys’ team scored 12 points and tied Winthrop for 17th place. Abshir Horor was runner-up in the mile (4 minutes, 28.13 seconds) and placed fourth in the 800 (2:04.33). Sacopee Valley won the team title with 66 points and ended North Yarmouth Academy’s four-year run. In the girls’ meet, won by John Bapst with 79 points, Waynflete tied for 21st with 6 points. Freshman Amelia Mitchell was third in the 800 (2:27.03).

Cheverus track stars compete at New Englands

The curtain came down on the 2010 outdoor track season for city runners, jumpers and throwers at the 65th annual New England Interscholastic championships in New Britain, Conn., Saturday. Cheverus’ Hanna Lyons came in eighth in the long jump (16 feet, 9.25 inches) and 13th in the 100 (13.14 seconds). Teammate Caroline Somma tied for 14th in the high jump (5 feet). Fiona Hendry was 17th in the mile (5 minutes, 18.07 seconds). Senior Amelia Lundkvist placed 24th in the mile (5:24.36). Hendry, Lundkvist, Lyons and Somma combined to come in 19th in the 3,200 relay (10:01.64). On the boys’ side, Jack Terwilliger came in ninth in the mile (4:17.95). Beau Michaud was 16th in the shot put (49-11) and 27th in the discus (113-11). The Stags 3,200 relay team was eighth (8:01.57).

New Casco Bay Sports upcoming

Casco Bay Sports is offering a Wednesday night Twilight Flag Football league, beginning June 23, a Monday night soccer league, starting June 28, and a Tuesday night summer dodgeball league, beginning June 29. FMI, cascobaysports.com.

Maine Premier Lacrosse summer registration open

Deering girls’ basketball hoops camp upcoming

Deering’s girls’ basketball program is hosting a Lady Rams Hoop Camp from June 28 through July 1 for incoming grades 3 through 8. The camp takes place in the Deering gym each day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $100 per player or $150 per family. Deering is also hosting a summer program beginning Monday for players entering grades 9 through 12. There will be workouts in the Deering gym and games, home and away. Cost is $100. Waynflete cross country camp next month

The Waynflete cross country program, winners of the past three Class C girls’ state championships, coached by Maine Running Hall of Famer Ziggy Gillespie, will be held from July 6 to 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Waynflete Athletic Fields. The camp is open to ages 10-18. The schedule includes proper nutrition, training schedules, race strategy, weight training and more. The fee is $175. FMI, 774-5721 or waynflete.org.
