Recent Oxford Hills graduate Matt Verrier was named the 2010 Winkin Award winner Friday at the University of Maine in Orono.

The award, given to the top senior baseball player in Maine, is named after former University of Maine and Husson University baseball coach Dr. John Winkin. Ryan Leach of Hall-Dale, Lincoln Sanborn for Bonny Eagle and Eric White of Brewer were also finalists.

Verrier, a catcher, batted .460 with two home runs and 28 RBIs for Oxford Hills, which finished 19-2 and won the Class A state championship. Verrier will play for the University of Maine next season.

Earlier this spring, Verrier was named the Gatorade Maine Baseball Player of the Year.
