AUGUSTA — Jury selection began this morning in a case in which a Monmouth man is accused of killing his mother a year ago in the home the two shared.
The state has charged Kenneth McDonald, 44, with “intentional and knowing and/or depraved indifference murder” in the beating and stabbing death of 80-year-old Janice McDonald.
The trial in Kennebec County Superior Court is scheduled to begin Monday and last several days.
Justice Michaela Murphy told the jury pool of more than 100 people that choosing a jury in the murder case could take some time.
Kenneth McDonald, wearing beige pants and a dark blazer, walked into the courtroom with his attorney, James Billings. McDonald has been held in custody since he was arrested a year ago.
