Unless undecided voters break for Republican Jason Levesque in a big way, Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud remains on track to win re-election by a double-digit margin, according to results of The Maine Poll released Wednesday.

The survey results show Michaud leading Levesque by 13 percetage points among likely voters, 43 to 30 percent. However, the big unknown is that about one-quarter of respondents – 26 percent – still don’t know who they’ll vote for, according to the poll results.

Conducted on Sunday and Monday, The Maine Poll surveyed the opinions of 300 likely voters in the 2nd Congressional District and had a margin of error of 5.7 percent. The poll was commissioned for MaineToday Media by the Portland research firm Critical Insights.

Compared with the two previous Maine Polls, the third survey showed that Michaud continues to enjoy a comfortable lead even as his support slips slightly. The first poll gave Michaud a 20-point advantage, then a 12-point lead, and now 13 points.

Support for Michaud has dropped steadily during the three polls from 48 percent to 44, to 43. Levesque’s support has ping-ponged, from 28 percent, up to 32, and down to 30.
