Ryan “Mickey” McLean of Ohio was selected Tuesday night in New York City as Cosmopolitan magazine’s Bachelor of the Year. He beat the hottest bachelors from the 49 other states and the District of Columbia, including Maine’s hottest bachelor Derek Lovely of Portland.
McLean won $10,000 cash and a $5,000 gift card from Express.
Lovely manages a Port Resources group home for developmentally disabled adults. He grew up in Oxford and graduated from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and the University of Southern Maine. He played basketball for both schools and continues to play in a local men’s league.
McLean, a Cleveland chef, describes himself as “loyal, optimistic and easygoing.” He intends to save some of the prize money to pay the taxes on it and take the friend who nominated him on a shopping spree.
Each year Cosmopolitan devotes an issue to the hottest bachelors from each state. The magazine currently on newsstands features profiles of each bachelor.
