BIDDEFORD — A political action committee that opposes a racino in Biddeford filed a preliminary injunction Friday, asking a judge to prevent Mayor Joanne Twomey and the City Council from interfering with their presentation about the proposal during a special meeting on Monday night.

Citizens Against a Bad Deal, the group that opposes the $125 million proposal called Biddeford Downs, filed the complaint in York County  Superior Court, claiming that Twomey has said she would control the discussion about the proposal.

The mayor is a strong supporter of the proposal for a racino in the city.

The committee presented a anti-racino petition to the council last week, forcing a special meeting on the proposal.
Opponents say the racino project is moving forward too quickly.

Voters will decide Nov. 2 whether Biddeford should host a racetrack-slot machine complex. Scarborough Downs and Ocean Properties Ltd. announced their plan for Biddeford Downs late last month.
