PORTLAND CITY HALL
— City officials expect to begin posting election results soon, after a larger-than-expected voter turnout.
City Clerk Linda Cohen said the turnout at 6 p.m. had already eclipsed the total turnout from four years ago.
She said about 23,000 people had voted with two hours left before polls were to close. She estimated the final turnout would be about 25,000 – out of about 47,000 registered voters.
Two precincts expected to report late because there were sitll voters in line when polls closed at 8 p.m.
An estimated 50 to 75 voters were still in line at Grace Baptist Church, in northesaat section of the city, and about 100 were still in line at Reiche Elementary school in the West End.
