NOTES
Mississippi State officials said Nick Bells, a defensive end on the football team, died at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital after battling cancer since late September. Penn State dismissed Clint Gyory, who serves as team mascot, because he broke a team rule, assistant AD Jeff Nelson said. Gyory did not return a call seeking comment. Officials earlier said police had issued underage drinking, public drunkenness and criminal mischief citations to Gyory on Aug. 1.
