BANGOR — A 44-year-old Old Town woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling between $20,000 and $30,000 from the Bangor Savings Bank.

Karen Lebreton admitted Wednesday in U.S. District Court that she diverted money from at least three customer accounts to her own use between December 2008 and November 2009 while working as a customer service representative.

The Bangor Daily News reports court documents say Lebreton overrode the savings accounts of certain customers and requested a teller withdraw the funds in the form of cashier’s checks. Investigators discovered that Lebreton last year deposited six cashier’s checks totaling $22,500 into her own account at a credit union.

Lebreton faces up to 30 years in prison.
