WESTBROOK — The Westbrook Zoning Board of Appeals will continue its hearing on the revocation of a Warren Avenue strip club’s occupancy permit at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Westbrook High School, Room 114.

The hearing will pick up from an opening session two weeks ago to consider an appeal by owner Lawrence Ferrante of the business’s shutdown by city officials.

The occupancy permit for Dreamers Cabaret was revoked on Sept. 21, the day after the business opened. The city’s fire inspector and code enforcement officer cited fire code violations such as inadequate fire alarms, sprinkler coverage and a deficient septic system.

Owner Lawrence Ferrante has sued the city for violating his constitutional right to freedom of expression. Last month a U.S. District Court judge denied Ferrante’s request for a temporary restraining order against the city.

Westbrook had no restrictions against nude dancing until this month when the Westbrook City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that bans nude dancing.

Tuesday’s hearing will include presentations by both sides in the issue, as well as public comment.
