The Bowdoin field hockey team won its third Division III national championship in four years last weekend. The Polar Bears downed Skidmore, 5-0, in the semifinals (behind two goals and three assists from Cathleen Smith), then edged Messiah College, 2-1, on penalty strokes, to win it all.

Bowdoin got a regulation goal from Ella Curren, then, after Messiah drew even, won the shootout, 3-1. Emily French, Kassey Matoian and McKenna Teague converted to give the Polar Bears the championship.

Men’s soccer is making history as well.
