NEWPORT — A Maine woman says she’s getting too old for this kind of excitement.

Slippery roads caused a tractor-trailer to slide out of control and to careen into a house in Newport, smashing the sun room and leaving the home’s occupants stunned. Newport Police Lt. Randy Wing said the tractor-trailer was fully loaded with bark at the time of the crash at 2:10 a.m. today.

Eighty-one-year-old Marguerite Fowler said she and her 84-year-old husband Stanley were sound asleep when they heard the crash. The impact shook the structure and sent glass shards throughout the house.

Marguerite Fowler says it sounded like a bomb went off. She says “we don’t need all that excitement at our age.”
