WHALE NOTES: Back in December, former Portland left wing Tim Kennedy scored two overtime goals during a three-day span to lift the Whale to a pair of wins against the Pirates. Center Chad Kolarik has a goal and five assists in seven games this season against the Pirates, including three as a member of the Springfield Falcons before getting traded.

PIRATES NOTES: The Pirates are 2-0-2 against Connecticut. Mark Mancari, the AHL Player of the Month for January, leads the league with 27 goals. Forward Derek Whitmore has three goals against the Whale, and rookie defenseman Nick Crawford has a goal and three assists.
