PORTLAND — A man charged with robbery turned himself in this morning after seeing his picture in the media.

James Blann, 39, of Portland flagged down an officer at 7:45 a.m. near the corner of Preble and Lancaster streets. He told the officer he’s the man whose picture was shown in connection with Monday’s armed robbery at the Big Apple on Park Avenue.

Police released an image from a security camera showing the man who at 4 a.m. hit a clerk in the back of the head with an object and grabbed money from the register. The clerk was taken by ambulance to the hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening. Police did not know this morning whether the man had been released from the hospital.

Police said Blann has no history of robbery with the department but was arrested in the past for theft.

Blann is being held at Cumberland County Jail on on $25,000.
