A South Portland teenager has been indicted for allegedly driving the getaway car for a burglary in Saco then claiming she was the victim of a carjacking.

A York County grand jury this week indicted Katie Fonseca, 19, on charges of burglary and hindering apprehension.

The two men who committed the daytime burglary have not been arrested yet, though police say they have made progress in their investigation and identified suspects based on sketches provided by witnesses. Police gathered evidence for the case during a search of a Portland business and residence on Ocean Avenue Jan. 19.

On Dec. 30, two men had broken into a home on Louden Road but were interrupted when the homeowner returned, police said. The homeowner chased the pair, one of whom was trailing a loading dolly. One of the burglars fired a shot from a handgun and the bullet pierced the homeowner’s pants but did not injure him, police said.

The pair flagged down the 18-year-old driver of a car, loaded the dolly in and told the female driver to leave.

When police pulled the car over later, the driver – Fonseca – said she did know the men and that they had forced her to drive at gunpoint to another location where they met a red sedan and drove off.
