GORHAM — The mixed musical stylings of New York and Maine will be in evidence when the University of Southern Maine School of Music hosts a weekend of new music at Corthell Concert Hall on USM’s Gorham campus.

It starts at 8 p.m. Friday with “Unaccustomed Earth,” a performance from the New York-based group Two Sides Sounding in collaboration with USM School of Music faculty member Daniel Sonenberg’s composers collective South Oxford Six. The performance is part of the school’s Spotlight Concert Series.

The concert of new music will include a premiere by Aleksandra Vrebalov, as well as music composed by Edward Ficklin, Kala Pierson, Michael Rose and Sonenberg. It will feature soprano Eleanor Taylor, pianist Michael Rose and cellist Michael Haas.

Tickets cost $15; $10 for seniors and USM employees; and $5 for students and children. They can be purchased by calling the USM box office at 780-5555.

The South Oxford Six is a group of composers with varied musical styles and a shared mission of presenting new music.

They have presented concerts at Symphony Space’s Thalia Theatre, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, the Broadway Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, and in Sombor, Zrenjanin and Novi Sad, Serbia. Sonenberg is a founding member.
