The Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is holding its annual plants, books and knick-knacks sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 206 Auburn St. in Portland.

Program aids new families
The Kids First Center is offering a workshop Saturday to help stepparents and biological parents understand the typical ups and downs that new families experience.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the center, 222 St. John St.
Participants will learn how to ease the transition process; set boundaries and learn ways to feel comfortable in their new roles and relationships.
Cost is $60 for a person or $100 for a couple. To register, call 761-2709.
Open house at SailMaine
SailMaine, a community sailing center at 58 Fore St., is holding its fourth annual open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with free sailboat rides and family activities.
Instructors, coaches, and experienced sailors with SailMaine will take adults, teens, and kids, ages 8 and older aboard a 21-foot Ynglings and 14-foot 420s. Cruising sailboats will be available for larger groups.
Shoreside family activities will include boat rigging, knot tying, a marine yard sale, and a make-your-own sailboat station for children.
Refreshments will be sold.

SOUTH PORTLAND
Kid’s Yard Sale is Saturday
The Parks and Recreation Department is having its 5th annual Kid’s Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the community center on Nelson Road.
Children can rent a table and sell toys, bikes, clothes, CDs and DVDs.
Table space is $10 and $15 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. For more information, call 767-7650.
FALMOUTH
Plant sale fights Alzheimer’s
Sedgewood Commons is holding a plant sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 22 Northbrook Dr. in Falmouth.
Proceeds of the sale will benefit the 2011 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease on Sept. 24 at Payson Park.
