SACO — Thrill seekers will have new adventure rides to try by next summer.

Funtown/Splashtown USA announced the addition six new water slides to their water park, bringing unique features to the largest combination water-and-amusement park in Northern New England.

“These new thrill slides will really make a big splash with our hundreds of thousands of guests,” said founder and CEO Ken Cormier.

The six slides will stem from a tower, with four reaching 49 feet high and the other two dropping from 60 feet.

The two higher slides, with tunnels constructed of translucent fiberglass, will launch riders from a capsule at the top hurtling them down the water slides at speeds over 40 feet per second.

Vice President and General Manager Cory Hutchinson said these slides are a “first-in-the-world design feature.”

“The Cormier family is very excited to bring these unique water slide attractions to Maine and the guests of Funtown/Splashtown USA,” Hutchinson said.

The four lower slides will allow park guests to race each other to the bottom of the slide, ranking each rider in first through fourth place.

The new slides will be constructed at the current site of the Kartland Picnic Area. A new restaurant and restroom facility is also planned, as well as relocating Candy Land, the Funtoberfest Beer Garden and two group picnic areas.

Construction is slated to begin mid-September with completion by the end of May 2012.
