PERU — A 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital by helicopter following a car crash tonight, according to the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

The girl was driving north on Ridge Road  around 8:20 p.m. when she lost control of the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. The car went off the road and the passenger side of the vehicle hit a tree. The girl was the only person in the car.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to Rumford Hospital and then taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Deputy Mike Halacy said he did not know whether her injuries were life-threatening. The sheriff’s office is reconstructing the crash.
