WISCASSET — Merrye Virginia Leavitt, 75 of Lowell Town Road died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

She was born in Bath on November 5, 1935, a daughter of Holden and Carrie Wright.

She attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School in the class of 1954. On November 20, 1955 she married Donald W. Leavitt Jr., who she met while roller skating. She was employed at Newbury’s in Bath, doing clambakes on Cabbage Island and Key Bank for 23 years.

She was a president of the Damariscotta Region B.P.W., a Girl Scout Leader and secretary and treasurer of the Wiscasset Rod & Gun Club.

She enjoyed puzzles, sewing, braiding rugs, painting, birds, gardening and summer cookouts. She was also a great cook and loved having the family at her home for the holidays.

She is survived by her husband, Donald W. Leavitt Jr., one son, Donald M. Leavitt and his wife Valarie, one daughter, Vickie L. Hersom and her husband Robert, all of Wiscasset, one sister, Edna Wright of Bath, five grandsons and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters.

Visiting hours were held from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A funeral service was held at 1 PM on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery at a later date.
