CHEVERUS

Coach: John Wolfgram (sixth year)

Playoffs: Beat Scarborough (35-7), Deering (45-0), Thornton Academy (21-10)

Impact players: Cam Olson, sr., QB/S; Louie DiStasio, sr., WR/DB; Donald Goodrich, jr., RB/DE; Brent Green, jr., FB/LB; Spencer Cooke, sr., RB/DB

Key stats: The Stags have a 23-game winning streak and are seeking their second straight state title. Olson has passed for 982 yards and 13 TDs. DiStasio has 590 yards receiving, seven touchdown catches and is 54 for 54 on PATs. Spencer Cooke had 1,091 yards rushing in the regular season, but hasn’t played in the playoffs because of a broken bone in his leg.

Keys for Stags: The Stags will look to spring big plays, which they have done effectively. When not going for the game breaker, Cheverus is content to run time off the clock with its ground game. Defensively, the Stags swarm to the ball.

LAWRENCE

Coach: John Hersom (seventh year)

Playoffs: Beat Messalonskee (28-13), Bangor (40-14)

Impact players: Shaun Carroll, sr., RB/DB; Alex Leathers, sr., QB/DB; Spencer Carey, jr., WB/DB; Josh Perry, sr., C/LB

Key stats: Carroll was the third leading rusher in the Pine Tree Conference with 1,189 yards during the regular season and has rushed for 190 and 180 yards in two playoff victories. Leathers has thrown three touchdown passes in the playoffs. This is the Bulldogs’ seventh trip to the Class A state title game since 1988.

Keys for Bulldogs: The Bulldogs will try to control Cheverus’ running attack and big plays. Lawrence will look to mix it up on offense to keep the Stags guessing. That may mean throwing the ball more than usual. A quick start for the Bulldogs is essential.
