Brunswick center gets deficiency-free grade
BRUNSWICK — The Mid Coast Senior Health Center received a remarkable “deficiency free” report following an unannounced federal survey.
According to a news release, the Brunswick-based center is one of just 2 percent of Maine nursing homes rated as deficiency free.
A five-person review team spent five days assessing medical, nursing, and rehabilitative care; dietary and nutrition services, activities, and social participation; and sanitation, infection control, and the physical environment.
All nursing facilities that participate in Medicare and/or Medicaid must be certified as meeting federal requirements.
“The terrific results are due to an exceptional staff that makes it a daily priority to provide the best possible care for our residents in a warm, caring environment,” said Darlene Chalmers, executive director of the Mid Coast Senior Health Center. “The surveyors were very complimentary and spoke highly about the facility, staff, patient care, and quality. It takes an entire team effort to achieve such a prestigious survey outcome.”

Wiscasset’s CEI receives jobs grant
WISCASSET — Coastal Enterprises, Inc. recently received a $173,500 capital grant from the Create Jobs for USA Fund, a collaboration between Starbucks and the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN).
According to a news release, the money will help CEI to create and sustain jobs in Maine as part of a national campaign to support small, community businesses.
CEI is one of just 28 community development financial institutions in the nation to win a grant in the inaugural funding round. The grant was made possible by a $5 million seed contribution from the Starbucks Foundation.
Starting on Nov. 1, the Create Jobs for USA Fund began collecting donations at www.CreateJobsforUSA.org and at nearly 7,000 companyoperated Starbucks across the country. All donations will support organizations like CEI who make commercial loans for job creation and retention across the U.S.
“Create Jobs for USA is making it possible for Americans who have $5 to share help people who don’t have $5 to spare by creating and retaining jobs in their communities,” said Mark Pinsky, president and CEO of OFN. “Coastal Enterprises received this grant because it has demonstrated that it will provide financing that is good for community businesses and good for communities.”

Harraseeket Inn in Freeport recognized
FREEPORT — The Harraseeket Inn in Freeport recently made the Conde Naste Reader’s Choice List for the second year in a row. This year, the inn was voted one of the top 200 hotels in the country.
In 2010, the inn was voted one of the top 500 hotels in the world, according to a news release.
Bath’s InspireME moves to new site

Bike group elects new president, 3 to board
AUGUSTA — Larry Rubinstein of Scarborough has been elected as the new board president of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. And the coalition has elected three new board members: Joel Savilonis of Auburn, Pamela Fischer of New Gloucester and Peter Hall of Falmouth.
Rubinstein retired to Maine from New York City in 2003 and joined the coalition board two years later. He is a founding member of the coalition’s Yellow Jersey Club and a cycling instructor.
Rubinstein will lead the coalition as it works to organize a major, weeklong bike ride across Maine. “I am proud and honored to serve as president at this important time in the life of the Bicycle Coalition when we are about to institute new programs with the leadership of a highly committed board and a first-rate professional staff,” he said.
Savilonis has worked as a quality manager and engineer in Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Maine. A recreational rider since the early 1970s and former bike shop owner, he helped found the Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire, served as a board member of the Granite State Wheelmen cycling club and served on the board of the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin.
Fischer, the corporate quality assurance manager for Nestle Waters North America, commutes 28 miles round trip by bicycle to her office in Poland Spring whenever she can. She served on the committee that helped organize the Bicycle Coalition’s 2011 Women’s Ride.
Hall is a veterinarian and optometrist who owns Portland Eyecare.
“Cycling has been a wonderfully positive influence in my life and I wish to share it with others,” said Hall. “My main interest in serving on the Bicycle Coalition board is in supporting the development of a bike tour across Maine.”
Bath Savings expands its lending team
BATH — Bath Savings Institution has promoted two employees with strong banking and customer service skills to consumer lenders. They will specialize in matching customers with personal loan products to meet their needs.
Justin Dionne of Brunswick started his career as a student intern in Bath Savings’ loan department and has been promoted to consumer lender at the Bath branch. A graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, Dionne holds a B.S. in finance and management, and is an avid volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
Another Brunswick resident, Tyler Zamore, has been promoted from customer service representative to consumer lender at Bath Savings’ Brunswick branch. Zamore was a University of Maine honor student with a degree in business economics. He serves on the Red Cross board, is involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and recently spearheaded the Backpacks for Kids effort in the Brunswick office.
“Both Justin and Tyler exhibit the customer-centered service skills we value at Bath Savings,” said Glenn Hutchinson, president. announced the appointment of Merit McIntyre to regional vice president of the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Northern New England region.
According to a news release, McIntyre will oversee the company’s 13 branch offices in Maine and New Hampshire. He will report directly to Patricia Villani, senior vice president and general sales manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.
McIntyre most recently served as managing partner of NorthWay Commercial Brokerage in Haverhill and principal of McIntyre, Day & Co., a private investment firm that purchases and redevelops commercial real estate in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. “Merit has achieved tremendous success throughout his real estate career, and we are pleased to have someone with his exceptional skills as part of our dynamic senior management team,” said Loughlin. “I am delighted that Merit will be sharing his expertise with the management team, and I am confident he will provide the necessary support to help our Maine and New Hampshire offices expand their business and achieve greater success.”
BDA to host silent auction on Dec. 1
BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Downtown Association will host its annual Silent Auction Fundraiser on Dec. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Reading Room in the old section of Curtis Memorial Library.
The auction is open to the general public. Come join the BDA for a festive evening of fun and early Christmas shopping. Featured auction items will include works of art in different artistic mediums, tickets to professional sporting events, vacation rentals, boat cruises, a ride in a Cessna 183, a three-hour kayak tour and picnic, gift items and certificates from local businesses, and more.
Local musical artists Tamora Goltz and David Stimson will provide seasonal and traditional Irish music, and complimentary refreshments will be provided by local area restaurants and BDA board members.
