PORTLAND — An autopsy determined that the man killed Monday night at a Forest Avenue apartment died of a stab wound to the chest.

Police identified the victim as Carlos Ramos, 47, who lived in apartment 4 at 991 Forest Ave.

The state medical examiner performed the autopsy this morning. Police would not release the manner of death, which could range from self-inflicted to accidental to intentional homicide.

Police would not identify a suspect in the case but said only that nobody was in custody earlier today.

Police did interview a woman who has been staying at the apartment with Ramos. One neighbor said they overheard the woman telling police that Ramos had startled her and she had stabbed him accidentally.

Police would not confirm those reports.
