THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal-Lutheran women’s basketball team used a late 6-0 run and held off a Bowdoin rally to edge the Polar Bears 56- 55 in the finale of the Posada Royale Holiday Classic late Saturday evening.

Bowdoin had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-3.

Polar Bear guard Kaitlin Donahoe had 18 points to lead all scorers. Alexa Barry had 15 points and 13 rebounds as both players were named to the All- Tournament team.

The Polar Bears trailed 31-24 at intermission, but chipped away at the lead and used a 10-0 run, keyed by eight points from Donahoe, to take a 47-41 advantage with 7:21 to go. The Regals answered with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 47 with under six minutes to play.

The Regals were able to connect on seven free throws down the stretch to build a four-point lead with under a minute to play. Barry cut the lead to 54-53 with a 3-pointer with 31 seconds to go. After two more Lutheran free throws made it 56-53, Jill Henrikson’s potential game-tying trey was off the mark as the Regals clung to victory.

Bowdoin will return to action at Hamilton this upcoming Friday.

Friday victory

Bowdoin never trailed after the opening moments of a 90-66 victory over Rivier College in the opening round on Friday.

Henrikson led all players with 20 points, including 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3- point range. She also had seven rebounds and five assists for the Polar Bears.

Barry had a season-high 17 points to go with six rebounds, while Donahoe scored 15 with seven assists and four steals. Amy Hackett also saw double figures with 12 points, six caroms and six assists.
