The victory, the third straight for the 5-5 Wolverines, came with a price as third- quarter lower leg injuries to standout guard Devin Grover and his backup Ben Sutter had coach Dana Lawrence shaking his head after an otherwise solid night of basketball from his squad.

Just three minutes later, Sutter came crashing down after a hard collision under the basket, grabbing his right leg and forcing another visit from an ambulance crew. “I don’t think Devin’s (injury) is as bad, but Ben I’m afraid is worse. It is a tough way to end the night.”
“This game was like a prize fight, where they just punched us right in the face, hit us first and before we knew it we’re down 10 to zip,” said Lisbon (1-9) coach Eric Hall, whose team had an eight-day layoff. “We were out of our routine, and we just didn’t play well tonight.”
Wiscasset hit its first four shots, including a 3-pointer each from Austin Haskell and Jordan Jones in the game’s first minute. A Lisbon timeout did little to stop the Wolverines, who shot 61 percent ( 11 of 18) in the quarter for a 27- 10 lead. Caleb Bryant had 10 firstquarter points for Wiscasset, with Grover and Haskell chipping in five each.
Brad Groh came off the Lisbon bench to account for six of his team’s first-quarter points.
The second frame was more of the same, as Wiscasset extended its lead to 29 points, 45-16 before heading to the break on top 47-22.
“Starting strong was very important for us because we needed this win, especially with a tough schedule coming up,” said Bryant, whose team will host Winthrop on Friday and the Greyhounds on Saturday before playing host to undefeated and twotime defending Western C champ Dirigo on Monday. “All-around, we are playing much better and have grown into a solid unit.”
Another strong half
Wiscasset outscored Lisbon 19- 6 in the long third quarter for a 66- 28 lead as Jones drained a pair of treys, and Bryant and Haskell added four more points apiece.
The ’Hounds managed just five fourth- quarter points while allowing 20.
“ Early in the season, we lost two or three games to good teams where we only played well for a quarter, but we have stayed focused and are taking good care of the ball,” said Lawrence. “We are executing well on defense and playing solid throughout four quarters. That is what we have to do to have success.” Bryant led the Wolverines with 22 points, with Travis Padilla (14 points), Haskell ( 13) and Jones ( 11) joining Bryant in double figures. Grover chipped in eight points before departing, while Jason Weatherbee had six points and eight rebounds. Padilla pulled down a teamhigh 11 caroms as Wiscasset held a dominating 43- 24 rebounding edge. Haskell picked up six steals and Jones dished out four assists.
Wiscasset shot 42 percent (31 of 73) and forced 25 Lisbon turnovers. The Wolverines finished 19 of 30 at the foul line.
Jacob Bremmer and Groh led Lisbon with nine points each. Groh pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots, while Bremmer grabbed six rebounds. Lisbon was 13 of 47 (27 percent) from the field and six of 13 at the charity stripe.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to host Hall- Dale on Thursday.
