ALFRED — The jury in the murder trial of Patrick Dapolito today heard testimony about how the defendant introduced a new theory about his wife’s death to authorities.

Dapolito, 41, is accused in the 2010 death of 30-year-old Kelly Winslow. He had initially told authorities that they were sleeping on the bathroom floor when the gun in his hand accidentally fired. He is now saying that he was a drug dealer and that Winslow was the victim of a dispute with his suppliers.

Maine State Police Detective Mark Holmquist testified about the interview in which Dapolito introduced the possibility that Winslow was the victim of a drug hit.

Jurors began listening to an audio recording of another police interview.

Earlier in the day, they heard testimony about instant messages Dapolito’s daughter had sent after Winslow had been shot. A member of a state police computer crimes task force and two of the daughter’s friends testified.

The prosecution is expected to continue presenting its case tomorrow in York County Superior Court.
