BRUNSWICK — Tyler Niven exploded for four goals as the Brunswick High School boys ice hockey team rolled to a 5-1 Eastern A victory over Gray-New Gloucester/Poland on Saturday at Sidney J. Watson Arena.

Niven put 12 of Brunswick’s 24 shots on goal. He scored twice on the power play, once shorthanded and once while the teams skated five-on-five.

“Tyler shoots the puck well and is hitting the net more often,” said Brunswick (6-5-1) coach Mike Routhier, whose team visits Cheverus today at 4 p.m. at Portland Ice Arena.

Dylan Towle opened the scoring, converting a rebound of a Niven shot on the power play for a 1-0 Dragons lead. Niven made it 2-0 with four minutes remaining in the opening period and upped the advantage to three goals 1:59 into the second frame.

Brunswick was three of seven on the power play, and held Gray- NG/ Poland ( 2- 8) scoreless on seven power-play opportunities.

Matt Brooks, Blake Bodwell and Towle picked up an assist each, and netminder Blake Alexander had 16 saves in the victory.

Jordan Rouillard scored the lone goal late in the third period for the visitors, with netminders Jake Simard and Nick Hemond combining on 19 saves.

Maranacook/Hall- Dale/Winthrop scored seven goals in the second period in taking an Eastern A hockey victory at Watson Arena on Saturday.

Ian Palmer had two goals, Dan Condon two assists and Nick Lacasse a goal and an assist for the 7-4 victors.

“The first 10 minutes, we outplayed them and led 1-0 ( goal by Jeremy Williams, with Ben Bishop and Zach Pratt assisting), but after that we couldn’t get the puck out of our end,” said Mt. Ararat/ Lisbon coach Mike Bishop, whose squad is 4- 6 and hosts Windham/Sacopee Valley on Thursday at 8: 15 p.m.
