CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The trial of a University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his ex-girlfriend is set to begin in Charlottesville.
Jury selection is scheduled to start today in the trial of George Huguely V. The 24- year-old from Chevy Chase, Md., faces firstdegree murder and several other charges in Charlottesville Circuit Court in the death of women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love, who died of head injuries in May 2010.
Police say Huguely told investigators he kicked in Love’s bedroom door and then shook her, causing her head to hit a wall several times.
Huguely’s attorneys contend the 22-yearold Love of Cockeysville, Md., died accidentally from an irregular heartbeat.
