The biathlon combines cross-country skiing and target shooting, with points awarded Sunday for skiing a two-kilometer loop, shooting at targets from a prone position and then skiing another two kilometers, according to a release from coach Chuck Mainville. “The course was icy, fast and with much steeper slopes than our skiers are accustomed to and it is a tribute to their skiing skill and stamina that they did so well,” Mainville said. Phippsburg youth Nordic skiing is sponsored by the Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association, the Phippsburg Recreation Committee and the nonprofit organization Maine Youth Sports Opportunities.
