THE MIDCOAST COMMUNITY CHORUS begins rehearsals Monday, in preparation for its June 16 concert in the Strom Auditorium at Camden Hills High School in Rockport.

CAMDEN — Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC), under the direction of Mimi Bornstein, will begin its spring semester on Monday.

Founded in 2007 with a mission to “sing as a community for the community,” MCC is a multi-generational, non-auditioned chorus for anyone who wants to sing. MCC draws an average of 140 singers per semester and welcomes all singers ages 12 and older.

“Performing music of hope, healing, peace and transformation from all over the world, singers are given a place to find voice for themselves, and give voice to some of the issues of our time,” an MCC release states.

MCC performs at least two concerts a year, one of which raises awareness and funds for a local nonprofit organization addressing social injustices and community needs. Past beneficiaries have included the Knox County Health Clinic, New Hope for Women, Five Town Communities That Care and Maine Farmland Trust.

The spring 2012 semester will culminate in a June 16 concert at the Strom Auditorium to benefit The Restorative Justice Project.

Choristers can register by downloading a form from: www.mccsings.org. To register in person, arrive between 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Monday at John Street United Methodist Church in Camden, where the first rehearsal will take place.

The fee to participate during the spring semester is $50 for adults or $25 for singers age 18 and younger. Full and partial scholarships are available. All singers must also be members of MCC with annual membership dues starting as low as $5 for students and $10 for individuals.

Rehearsals will be held from 6: 30 p. m. to 8: 30 p. m. Mondays at John Street Methodist Church in Camden. Sean Fleming will return as MCC’s rehearsal accompanist and will also perform with the chorus in the June concert.
