BRUNSWICK — The Rev. Mary E. Baard, senior pastor of First Parish Church, UCC, is one of more than 13,000 U.S. clergy taking part in The Clergy Letter Project, a public witness to the conviction that “the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist.”

This weekend marks the project’s annual Evolution Weekend.

Churches that participate “take the opportunity for serious reflection on the dialogue between religion and science, and the sermon on Sunday at First Parish will explore this topic,” states a release from the church.

“I found my experience of studying mathematics and biology as an undergraduate expanded my theological inquiry and my study of theology in seminary brought new insights and questions to my interest in science,” said Baard.

The goal of Evolution Weekend is to deepen the quality of the discussion on the relationship between science and religion. For more information, visit www.theclergyletterproject.org.
