BRUNSWICK

Parkview Adventist Medical Center President Ted Lewis announced his retirement Tuesday.

Lewis led the downtown Brunswick hospital for almost 10 years. He succeeded Jon Gepford in October 2002, coming to Maine after a stint as president and chief executive officer of Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton, La.

Randee R. Reynolds will serve as Parkview’s interim president, according to a statement from Mike Ortel, chairman of the hospital’s board of directors.

Reynolds now serves as treasurer of the Northern New England Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

In a statement released Tuesday, Ortel praised developments at the hospital during Lewis’ time at the helm.

“There have been multiple clinical improvements during Ted’s tenure at Parkview over the last 10 years,” Ortel said in the release. “The LifeFlight of Maine helicopter, many new primary care providers, the Topsham practice and new specialists, such as cardiology and orthopedics to name but a few.”

Parkview also garnered national attention for information technology advances during Lewis’ tenure as president.

Amid what Ortel called “difficult economic times,” he said that the hospital board is “very pleased that … we can count on (Reynolds’) extensive background in financial matters and skill in providing the most health care value for the money.”

Ortel said that the hospital’s relationship with Central Maine Healthcare, which affiliated with Parkview in 2008, will continue to grow stronger.

“ The best years of Parkview lie ahead and we are confident that our ongoing positive and expanding relationship with Central Maine Healthcare will enable us to continue to expand our offerings,” Ortel said.

The nonprofit hospital was established in 1959.
