BATH — A Massachusetts man who tried to outrun officers on Commercial Street early Saturday morning ended up in the hospital — and then in jail — after they detained him with two Tasers.

Just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Bath Police Officer Ted Raedel pulled over a car driven by Christopher A. Brazee, 39, of Pittsfield Mass., near Brackett’s Market because Raedel thought he recognized him as someone with a suspended license, according to Bath Police Lt. Stan Cielinski.

When Brazee’s car stopped, “he got out and ran,” Cielinski said today.

Raedel chased Brazee on foot to Commercial Street near the Coal Pocket, where Cpl. Marc Brunelle arrived to provide back-up, Cielinski said.

“They gave him several warnings, but he took a couple of swings at the officers,” Cielinski said.

After Brazee attempted to conk the officers, Raedel deployed his Taser. When that didn’t subdue Brazee, Brunelle deployed his Taser as well.

Police took Brazee to the Bath Police Station, where he began vomiting and became unconscious in the booking room.

He was taken by Bath Rescue to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where blood tests for alcohol and drugs were administered “because we suspect he was under the influence of drugs as well as alcohol,” Cielinski said. He was then taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

Cielinski said Brazee was wanted on a West Bath District Court warrant for bail revocation.

Police also charged Brazee with operating under the influence with one prior, operating after license suspension and refusing to submit to arrest or detention.

He is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on May 8.
