BATH — The Friends of Patten Free Library will host Maine’s Poet Laureate Wesley McNair for a poetry reading 6:30 p.m. April 17.

The author of nine volumes of poems, including “Lovers of the Lost: New and Selected Poems,” McNair has held grants from the Fulbright and Guggenheim foundations, two Rockefeller fellowships, two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and four honorary degrees for literary distinction.

He is the editor of “Take Heart: A Conversation in Poetry,” which appears weekly in The Times Record. In late April, McNair will publish his 18th book, “The Words I Chose,” a memoir describing his development as a poet against the odds of a broken home, poverty and the hardships of family life.

The program, free and open to the public, will be held in the Community Room.
