WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Thousands of youth from Israel, the United States and other countries have gathered at Auschwitz for a yearly event honoring the millions killed by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust.

About 10,000 young people gathered Thursday for the March of the Living at the former death camp of Auschwitz in southern Poland, some carrying Israeli flags. They were joined by a handful of Holocaust survivors and American military veterans who helped liberated various death camps at the end of World War II.

The group is to march the roughly two miles (three kilometers) from Auschwitz to Birkenau, a neighboring camp that was built by Hitler’s men to execute Jews, Roma and others in huge numbers.
