TOPSHAM — Nearly 1,000 customers can expect to be out of power for as long as three hours today as Central Maine Power crews work to repair a pole struck by a car on Route 201 this morning.
Topsham Police Lt. Christopher Lewis said a car crashed into a utility pole on Route 201 in the area of Barn Swallow Way and Longview Lane. The crash was reported at 8:46 a.m. today. No further details about the crash are available at this time.
Gail Rice, spokeswoman for CMP, said crews had to cease power in a circuit at around 11 a.m. to replace the damaged pole. About 983 customers in Topsham, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham are affected.
Power could be out for three hours, according to Rice, who noted that CMP doesn’t like to disrupt customers’ service but the broken pole created a safety issue.
