Members of the public get to decide on everything from the decor to the gown for Alyssa Kavanagh and Nick Planeta’s Nov. 2 wedding in Portland. The pair are this year’s winners of the $100,000 Real Maine Wedding of the Year Contest, sponsored by Real Maine Weddings Magazine.
Kavanagh and Planeta live in Cambridge, Mass., and both attended Colby College. Kavanagh grew up in Winslow. The couple was selected to win by online voting from a field of six couples.

Their wedding will take place at Grace restaurant with a reception to follow at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. Emilie Inc. will handle photography and the honeymoon at a Sandals resort will be arranged by Hurley Travel Experts. Sweetest Thing Weddings is coordinating the planning.
