BATH — A self-guided StoryWalk based on Maine children’s author and illustrator Cathryn Falwell’s “Scoot!” will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in City Park.

“A StoryWalk is an innovative way to combine physical activity and reading and is appropriate for all ages,” a Mid Coast Hospital release states. “Pages of a book are transformed into signs that are laid out in a trail, inviting families, children, caregivers, teachers and others to follow the path of pages.”

Falwell will visit the City Park gazebo at 4 p.m. to present an interactive word game about movement, read from “Scoot!,” and lead visitors through the StoryWalk.

“This is the perfect spring story for Bath’s (City) Park,” event planner Marla Davis, from Mid Coast Hospital’s Community Health Improvement Department, said in a release. “The park pond becomes a centerpiece for the story and the movements that mimic animals.” The Story- Walk is part of the 5-2-1- 0/Let’s Go! project. Mid Coast Hospital works with local schools, early childhood centers and community organizations to spread information about fruits and vegetable, more physical activity, less screen time, fewer sweetened beverages, and more milk and water.

Other StoryWalk partners also include Regional School Unit 1 and the Patten Free Library children’s room.
