TOPSHAM — The Coastal Youth Orchestra (CYO), under the direction of Karla Kelley and Nancy Roderick, will perform its 10th annual spring concert at 7 p.m. Monday at the Orion Performing Arts Center.

The orchestra’s three ensembles, the Fiddleheads, the Coastal String Ensemble and the Coastal Chamber Orchestra, will perform a varied selection of music.

Kelley will conduct the Chamber Orchestra in its performance of two works by Brahms, the “Academic Festival Overture” and the fourth movement from “Symphony No. 1.,” as well as “Safari Echoes,” a contemporary work by Mary Alice Rich.

Roderick will guide the string ensemble in its performance of “Rondeau” by Purcell, “Selections from Fiddler on the Roof,” “The Pink Panther Theme” and “Allison’s Waltz” by Bob Phillips.

The Fiddleheads, CYO’s youngest ensemble, will perform “Allegro,” “Classic Bits and Pieces” and “Span- ish Dance.” The concert will conclude with groups joining to perform a Piazzolla piece arranged by local musician Francis Vigneau of Bath, who arranged this piece for CYO.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted. A light reception will follow the performance.

“The orchestra was established in 2002 to provide a high-quality orchestral experience for area musicians,” a CYO release states. “CYO works to provide a fun, stimulating and challenging setting in which young students can develop their musical skills and learn about performance and music literature.”

Auditions for membership for next year’s school season will be held on May 22 at Mt. Ararat High School. Contact Nancy Roderick at 729-5156 or nancyrod@gwi.net to schedule an audition appointment or for concert information.
